  Overview on CMM® Assessment Activities Workshop
 
SECC organized a workshop entitled Overview on CMM® Assessment Activities. The course was held on 17 March 2002.
 
Objectives

 
  • The objective of this Workshop was to provide an overview about the necessary information about the assessment activities
 
Topics covered
 
The two main topics presented during the workshop were:
  • The Assessment Plan.
  • The prerequisites and qualifications to become a Lead Assessor.
For the assessment plan, Dr. Jack Hilbing presented how the assessment takes around 10 days. The first two days are dedicated for the training of the assessment team. Then, the following four days are for the interviews with the company staff. The last four days are for preparing the assessment report. The main prerequisites and qualifications to become a lead assessor are: to participate in two CBA-IPI prior to applying to the Lead Assessor Program, to have minimum ten years experience in management with a technical background, to have an advanced degree or equivalent experience in an appropriate technical area, and to attend the SEI - Introduction to CMM.

 
Instructor Short Bio

  Dr.Jack Hilbing:
  • Jack Hilbing is the Chief technology Officer of Carnegie Global Technologies Inc. and the president of Hilbing & Associates, Inc. He has over 30 years experience in the computer field as a business and technical manager, researcher, systems analyst, business developer, and university professor. Dr. Hilbing is an authorized CBA -IPI Lead Assessor, authorized SCAMPI lead assessor, an authorized instructor of the introduction to the CMM, and an authorized instructor of the introduction to the CMMI. He is also a visiting scientist of the SEI. Prior to August 2001, Dr. Hilbing spent 12 years at Carnegie Mellon University at Software Engineering Institute (SEI) and the Center for Information systems Engineering (CISE). He was the first managing director of CISE, a unit of the University established to help industry apply advanced software engineering practices, especially software process improvement.
