Upon a request from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to encourage the local software industry, SECC in collaboration with the CULTNAT (Center for Documentation of Cultural and Natural Heritage) have formed a workgroup to prepare a guide of specifications and standards for Library Information Systems (LIS).
The guide will provide the specialized companies with acceptable features and specifications of LIS so as to be accepted in Egyptian Libraries. The features, standards, and specifications will also be internationally accepted allowing complying products to be regionally and worldwide marketable .
The workgroup involved was composed of Librarian Consultants & Experts Team and Librarian Software Team. An external evaluation committee was formed to review the received documents and ensure its conformance to the requirements.
The guide was finalized, issued and distributed during the Awareness Seminar held on 6th June, 2005 to inform all the concerned parties with the published guide.The Seminar was attended by 140 from different libraries, organizations and software companies.
