Intermediate Concepts of CMMI Training Course |

SECC in collaboration with USAID/ICT Project has organized a five-day SEI Official Training Course on Intermediate Concepts of CMMI within the period 5-9 June, 2005.The course was delivered by Charles R. Myers and Richard E. Barbour, Visiting Scientists at the Software Engineering Institute (SEI), and was attended by 20 IT specialists from SECC and software companies.

Course Description
|

- This five-day course is a prerequisite for SCAMPI Lead Appraiser Training and CMMI Instructor Training. It introduces candidate SCAMPI Lead AppraisersSM, systems and software engineers, engineering process group (e.g., EPG, SEPG) members, candidate CMMI® instructors, and others to detailed CMMI concepts, including the relationships among CMMI model components. CMMI models are tools that organizations can use to help improve their ability to develop and maintain quality products and services. CMMI models are an integration of best practices from proven process improvement models, including the CMM for Software, EIA 731, and the Integrated Product Management CMM.
The course is composed of lectures and class exercises and is presented in a facilitative style designed to create dialog among participants and instructors. This style of interaction is designed to help prepare participants to determine the adequacy of their organization's implementation of CMMI process areas. After attending, participants will have a deep understanding of CMMI models. Those successfully completing the course will be able to use a CMMI model to develop an effective process improvement program. Further, they will be able to interpret their experiences using other process improvement models to apply to CMMI-based process improvement.

Prerequisites
|
| |
Before registering for this course, participants must:
- Meet the requirements documented in the prerequisites document:
- Complete a formal SEI authorized offering of the Introduction to CMMI course (either staged representation or continuous representation, or the newer Intro to CMMI course that covers both staged and continuous representations).
- Obtain experience with using the model before applying for the Intermediate class (e.g., serving on an Engineering Process Group, mapping CMMI to the organization's processes, serving as a member of an appraisal team, etc.).
- Carefully study the full content of one representation of the CMMI SE/SW/IPPD/SS model, Version 1.1, or of the CMMI book (Guidelines for Process Integration and Product Improvement), by Chrissis, et. al., published by Addison Wesley.
- Carefully study chapters 1-5 of the other representation of the CMMI SE/SW/IPPD/SS model, Version 1.1, or chapters 1-5 of the CMMI book. You must understand both the continuous and staged concepts before coming to the class.
- Complete and submit an assigned exercise before attending the course, according to instructions that will be supplied. This exercise will require 4-6 hours for most participants.
- Complete a minimum of ninety-days of self study following the completion of the Introduction to CMMI course.
- It is very important that the participant be capable of communicating well in English.
