Standards

SECC’s first goal is adopting standards for software development. The approach used to accomplish this goal is through studying of relevant international standards, obtaining the consensus of the software community, and then applying the appropriate standards.

SECC has adopted the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI®), developed by the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) of Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) as the cornerstone of process improvement. Motorola supported SECC in the “know-how” transfer of the model during the period 2002-2004.

SECC has conducted a series of workshops, seminars, and training courses to help industry firms learn how to practically apply the process areas of the model, especially for Levels 2 and 3.

SECC has released its Software Process Improvement Guide (SPIG) as an adaptable model of excellence in software development, based on the CMMI, to encourage the small and medium software enterprises to follow a coherent process for software development. SECC's SPIG contains guidelines, procedures, and templates to facilitate software process improvement. It has an associated electronic version that simplifies its full utilization as a toolkit to be used by software companies everywhere.

SECC has also issued a guide of specifications and standards for Library Information Systems.

SECC is in the process of developing best practices and templates for software acquisition based upon the international standards.
