Participant No. 1 – Software Engineering Competence Center (SECC, Egypt) (coordinator)
One of the key players in the ICT sector is the Software Engineering Competence Center (SECC), inaugurated in 2011 by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) to transform and support the software and ICT industry in Egypt. As a leading regional Center of Excellence (CoE), SECC has the mission of advancing and transferring the-state-of-art and practice in software engineering to ICT companies in order to enhance their quality, efficiency, and innovation level and improve the global competitiveness of their IT products and services. SECC was embodied in the organizational structure of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) in 2005. SECC has its own Board of Trustees (BoT) chaired by ITIDA CEO with representatives from academia, industry, and NGOs.

To achieve its mission, SECC capitalizes on its high-caliber staff with a solid track in research and development. SECC has 6 Ph.D. holders, 5 ITIL Experts, 4 Six Sigma Black Belt, 3 CMMI Lead Appraisers, 2 CMMI Authorized Instructors, 2 PSP/TSP Coaches, and 4 ISTQB Testing Managers. No such group exists under one roof in Egypt. SECC’s leading role goes beyond the Egyptian boarder as it provides support to countries as Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and United Emirates. Several innovative products have been developed at SECC and delivered successfully to over 120 SMEs in local and regional markets. Examples of such products are the Software Process Improvement Guide (SPIG) and the Testing Process Improvement Guide (TPIG).

SECC has identified Embedded Software as one of the key technologies that Egypt can take a lead in the near future. In 2005, SECC established state-of-art embedded lab and its R&D engineers received extensive embedded system training in South Korea. Since then SECC has participated in many collaborative R&D projects in embedded software with domestic industries. As SECC is the research center whose cooperation capacity is to be reinforced through RECOCAPE, it participates in all WPs. It leads WP1 and WP4 based upon its extensive best practice-based project management and quality assurance expertise. Its team has previous research experience relevant to RECOCAPE technologies.
